Meet Dr. Hoekstra,
Board-Certified Oral Surgeon
Dr. Hoekstra is a native of West Michigan, being born and raised in Grand Rapids. He graduated from Grand Rapids (Central) Christian High School and subsequently received his Bachelors of Science degree in Biology and Chemistry from Calvin College. With his strong interest in education, Dr. Hoekstra completed his secondary education teaching requirements at Calvin in preparation for teaching math and biology the following year for the Grand Rapids Public Schools as well as for General Motors Institute (GMI). His focus at GMI was metric conversion education for the auto industry, which included writing metric system educational instruction syllabi.
Dr. Hoekstra’s passion for education continues to extend into both his private and professional life, including being an instructor for the American Red Cross for many years.
Upon completing his oral and maxillofacial surgery training at Cook County Hospital in association with University of Illinois, Dr. Hoekstra entered private practice in oral and maxillofacial surgery beginning in 1982 in Holland, Michigan. Since then, he has had the privilege of caring for many in the West Michigan area in all phases of oral surgery, with a special heart for kids and the seniors of the community. Dr. Hoekstra is certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and holds active membership in many local, state and national oral surgery and dental societies. Continuing education and a profound interest to deliver excellent care for patients remain central to his practice philosophy.
Dr. Hoekstra has been married to his wife, Maria (who is a general dentist in practice in the Holland area) for 39 years. Together, they have 3 wonderful kids: Chris, Liz and son in law Jon, and Marcus, who live in all parts of the world. As a nearly four decades long member of Beechwood Reformed Church, Dr. Hoekstra is a former elder and currently serves on the Strategic Planning Committee. Dr. Hoekstra enjoys boating, photography, information technology, music performance, volunteering and spending time with family.
